recent readings

I think she is the cutest thing.
My heart broke when Jenn and Brad called it quits so many years ago.
Hank and Kendra, please don't cause me that pain again.

On the way back from D.C. Sum and I picked up two books we have both been wanting to read. I finished Kendra's Sliding Into Home within three days. It is a super easy read. Plus it is very entertaining and intense. She doesn't hold anything back and I respect her for that. I couldn't put it down.

Summer is currently reading, heart of the matter by Emily Giffin. Hurry and finish it, Sister! =) She is one of our favorite authors. I have read and loved every book of hers. (Check those out here.) I have also read baby proof and love the one you're with both by her. Sorry, didn't blog about those. Her book, something borrowed will be a movie very soon and I cannot wait!

Books I am currently still in the middle of....

Summer, Amy, Lauren, and I are all reading A Woman After God's Own Heart together. Summer sends out questions about each chapter. We are still working our way through this book. It's been very helpful. Elizabeth George tells it how it is. She's been there, done that so she knows where you are coming from. My suggestion? Get some friends together and read it!

True Believer by Nicholas Sparks. Julia, thanks for letting me borrow your collection. I love his books. Some more than others, but they are all worth reading.

eat, pray, love has been difficult for me. I have finished book one, Italy. I am finding it hard to pick back up. I think I need to wait until I am done with a few others so I can concentrate on it and it only. I do want to finish it before I see the movie. I love Julia Roberts.

So, now you know what's in my library at the moment.
What about Travis?

He is about to kick off a bible study with a few of his dental school buddies. Their leader, JB, suggested this book to help get them started. He is really enjoying it so far.

Happy reading!

heart strings

I just read Nicholas Sparks, The Choice.
My friend, Lauren, let me borrow it the other day.
Like I've posted before....I've been hooked on his books lately.
Every one that I have read, so far, have been great.
I have loved every one in its own way.
The Choice really pulled at my heart strings last night.
My eyes continued to fill with tears.
I was forced to think, "What if this happened to me?"
"How far would I go for love?"
I suggest...
You read this book.
p.s.
Another reason I love this book, the main character's name is Travis. =)

serious reading...

that's what I've been doing this summer....

I read my first Nicholas Sparks book, Dear John.

I read it while at the beach with friends. I loved it! As soon as I finished it, we watched the movie. Personally, I like the book better. There is one part of the movie that I am glad they changed. You will have to read it and watch for yourself.

I quickly picked up, The Last Song.
I finished it very quickly. It was hard to put down. I passed the book on to my friend, Julie, and she read it in 2-3 days. She loved it just as much as I did. Cannot wait to watch the movie.

Yesterday I finished my third Nicholas Sparks book, A Bend in the Road.
My friend, Julia, is a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks. She has many of his books. I read it all yesterday! We headed back to Memphis yesterday so I had lots of time on my hands! It was great! I am quickly falling in love with his books. She gave me four of his books to read. I do not know which one I will read next.

So, here are all of the books I have ready to be cracked open....

One that I am really excited about reading is, eat, pray, love. My Mom, my sister, and I are all going to read it together at the beach. It is somewhere in that stack above.
Happy Reading!

Can't Wait....

to finish the book and then see the movie!  I know you guys are going to think I am crazy posting about all of these books that I've thrown myself into.  I have read some really great books this summer.  I have been able to read them so quickly for many different reasons (1) they have all been amazing and I haven't wanted to put them down (2) I have had the entire summer off to do whatever I please (this has been my first summer in a very long time that I could totally devote it to whatever I want to do...no college courses, no wedding to plan, no master's classes to complete, no relocating) (3) my husband went back to school at the beginning of July and is studying all the time  (4) all of my girlfriends in Memphis...work during the day.  Now don't think with all of my reading I've been slacking only my wife duties!  I take breaks from reading to run to the store, take my husband out to lunch, wash the clothes/dishes, clean the house, cook, and for fun-meet the "Wives Club" for dinner and a movie.  Oops, I've lost track of what I was really meaning to post about.  So, I am almost half-way through with The Time Traveler's Wife and so far so good.  I go back to school TOMORROW!!!!  yuck, so I might not finish it as quickly as the others.  But my goal is to have to finished by August 14 which is when the movie comes out.  The "Wives Club" went to see The Ugly Truth, which is huh-larious and we can't wait to go see this in 2 short weeks!!  Click here for a sneak peak of the movie.

Who Knew??

Who knew that I would love reading the way I do now??  Like I've said before, I have never been a big reader.  The first series I read was Twilight which you can see in previous post how much I LOVE that series.  AWESOME!  My sister recently turned me onto a series by Emily Giffin.  (Click on her name to see her site.)  The first book is something borrowed.  It was a quick and easy read.  I read it in about 2-3 days.  If I wasn't out for the summer, it would have taken a little longer but I found myself not wanting to put it down.  I will give you the quote that is on the cover of the book.  I think it sums up the book perfectly!  It is from the author of The Devil Wears Prada, she says, "You don't have to lust after your best friend's boyfriend to worship this book (trust me on this)...Here's a heroine you'll root fore and won't want to put down."

I am now ready to move onto something blue.  It is next in the series....

Twilight in Less Than Two Weeks

Ok, ok!  I will be the first to say that I never thought that I would get so wrapped up into any book series.  I have to admit, I am not a huge reader.  I have only read a handful of books my whole life (apart from children books).  Anyways, while at the beach a week or so ago my cousins Emily and Katie were both reading the books.  Em let me borrow her Twilight book.  I was hooked within the first few chapters.  I finished Twilight while at the beach and Katie and I went to get New Moon.  I finished New Moon on our 15 hour/2 day trip back from North Carolina to Memphis.  So...once we got back to Memphis, I went and got the last two, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.  Travis went back to school on Monday and so I had time to get some SERIOUS reading done.  I finished the last book, Breaking Dawn, last night!!!  I can't believe that I got so involved in these books and read them so quickly.  I haven't been very productive with household things these last few days!  =)  Travis did enjoy watching whatever he wanted on tv and playing many football games on his PlayStation without me complaining.  I now realize that I do enjoy reading A LOT more than I ever thought.  I would highly recommend the Twilight series to anyone!  I got the movie when I got the books and it was great (not as good as the book) and I am ready for New Moon to come out in November!!!!  Stephenie Meyer, the author of the series has a website and it has a partial draft to Midnight Sun.  Midnight Sun is Edward's version of Twilight!!  Check it out.

Dare 1

The other D1/M1 wives and I have decided to start reading "The Love Dare".  The book is from the movie, "Fireproof".  The book is a 40 day journey and each day has a passage and a dare for you to complete.  We are going to read at least 5 dares a week and meet once a week to talk about it.  Basically, have our own little group therapy sessions!  So far, we are on Day 1/Dare 1.  Today's lesson was about patience and the dare was to not say anything negative to your spouse.  The lesson said that, "patience is an essential ingredient to a marriage."  At the end of each lesson, you check off the dare if you completed it.  I can check off dare 1!!

he's just NOT that into you...

Last night, Travis and I went with 3 other couples to go see the movie, "He's Just Not That Into You".  I was super excited because I read the book almost 4 years ago (as soon as it came out) and LOVED it!!  It is so true and says things that you really don't want to hear but you NEED to hear.  The movie was pretty good, not my favorite.  There were many many great actors and actresses in the film.  Jennifer Aniston of course was another reason I was excited about seeing the movie.  If you haven't read the book or seen the movie I suggest the book first!!  The boys really didn't enjoy the movie as much as the girls, so don't take your husband or man...definitely a girl's night movie.

Mary or Martha?

When Travis and I moved to Memphis, I knew I wanted to get involved and get to know more girls, wives, couples that were experiencing the same thing we were.  A few weeks after school started Travis and I went to a Side By Side meeting.  Side By Side is a group of wives, fiances, girlfriends of dental and medical school students.  SBS meets every Tuesday night.  Most nights are for Bible study or a book study and the other times are just to get together and visit.  It has been great to be around other girls that understand what is going on with our new adventure.  It is neat to hear girls talk about how the first two/three years flew by and how they can't believe they are in their third/fourth year.  Right now I can't image being in our last two years.  It is tough to be away from our families and it is good to talk to other girls who are just as far away or farther from theirs.  OK, back to the title of the post.  This semester we are reading the book, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.  It is about two sisters, Mary and Martha, and how they found their way to the Lord.  I have only ready Chapter 1 (for next Tuesday) but the first 13 pages have been great.  It's sometimes hard to see past all of the hustle and bustle of the every day life and see that we need to take a break and realize that HE is in charge and that we need to worship him.  Life if crazy and good, but what is life without God?

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way,
he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
She had a sister called Mary,
who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
