Something has clicked in my brain and my heart has learned to love running and getting in shape. I used to be afraid of it--afraid I couldn't do it. My goal at the beginning of May was to run 6-9 miles a week. Well last week I ran 15!! I hit 5 miles for the first time EVER last weekend with my best friend. We were out running and thought we were going to do 4. Once we realized we were past 4 miles I said, "let's do 5!" And you know what--I did it!! It was freaking amazing! We were running in Lauren's neighborhood and when the lady on my 'map my run' app said 5 miles she and I jumped, screamed and yelled--we basically acted like fools. We got together again during the week and ran 5 again!! And Saturday morning I got up and ran 5 all by myself. It was hot hot hot and it was hard but I did it!!
Running has become my little obsession and I love it. It is amazing how good it feels when you achieve something you never thought you could/would or even want to do.
{5 miles baby!!! lauren was pretty proud of me, ha!}
Then this past weekend {on Memorial Day} I completed the Murph Challenge with Lauren and Carlye. It's a workout dedicated in memory of Michael Murphy, a US Navy Seal, who was killed in Afghanistan. This was his favorite workout and people around the nation do it in memory of him on Memorial Day Weekend {money goes to the Michael Murphy Foundation.}
The workout consists of a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups {ouch!}, 200 push-ups {ouch!} 300 squats {ouch again!} and then another 1 mile run! When Lauren first asked me to do it I seriously laughed out loud and thought "heck no, why would I pay to do that?" But after talking with she and Carlye and really thinking about it, I decided I had to do it.
Besides the fact that it was for a man who gave his life for this place I love, it was the least I could do to show my appreciation. People who do Crossfit regularly were completing the workout in 45-50 minutes. My goal going in was to do it in under an hour------and guess what?!? I did!! I made it in 59:22. Barely made it but it counts!
That workout was one of the hardest things I've ever done. After my first set of 10 push-ups, I seriously thought "why in the hell am I out here doing this?" I was already sweating from places that shouldn't sweat and I had 19 more rounds to do! But everyone at the Crossfit gym was cheering everyone on, Lauren and Carlye were busting it right beside me and Trav was watching me giving me the world's best grin! My body was like jello when we were running the last mile. I thought I was either going to pass out or vomit right there on the side of the road. But crossing the "finish line" was oh so sweet!! We all finished and finished within minutes of each other and it was awesome!
{the murph shirts we got for doing the workout!}
{He didn't want to get too close and take a picture with me because I was so nasty and sweaty!}
I want to live a long life and watch my babies grow. I want them to see me taking care of myself and being active. I want them to be proud of me and see that if Mommy can do it--so can they! Getting strong, being active and healthy is something I want my children to see is important. Setting goals and working hard to accomplish them is something I want Asher and Maeve to see me doing. I want them to know that nothing is impossible.
