a peeping Tom and Wang's Mandarin House

Friday night was Wife's Night!
We headed downtown to a local Mexican restaurant, Rio Loco, for dinner and good conversations.

Smile pretty!

Lauren, Julie, and Lynsi

Waiting downtown for Travis to come and pick us up!

Most of us, wives, live in houses on the Island and have lately become very aware of a local "Peeping Tom".  Sometime during dinner, our happy conversation turned to a serious discussion about the peeper and the terrible things that people do to others.  To sum it all up, we scared ourselves silly and decided to head back to the house to finish up our wife's night out.  On our way back to Lauren's house, we saw two cops and some men in golf carts.  (Travis and I had first learned about the peeper from the golf cart guys a week before.)  Seeing the police and the golf cart "patrollers" we knew that something was up!  Being curious, we decided to go patrolling ourselves.  Why?  I do not know. We loaded up in one car and patrolled up and down the streets on the Island.  We ran into two guys walking down the street, one with a golf club and the other with a huge can of mace.  They said that they had just spotted the peeper and lost him as he ran in between some nearby houses.  Just to give you a picture of the houses on the Island:  there are tons of houses on many different streets and they are all about 10 feet away from each other.  It's a cozy little neighborhood.  So anyways, we didn't see the peeper but are all very much aware of him and are doing everything we can to keep him from "peeping" in our houses!

On Saturday, Julie, Lauren, and myself had a serious day of shopping.  We started out at Rando's Salon at 1:00 where Lauren got a trim and Julie now has an adorable new hair cut!!  We then headed to about 10 different stores (some places we went to more than once) all over the Memphis-Collierville area.  When looking for JoAnn's Fabrics, we ended up in a culdesac!  I think our Garmin was taking us to JoAnn's house, literally!!  Our last stop of the day was probably the best, Muddy's Bake Shop.  I've posted about this wonderful bake shop before.  We dropped by to get our tired selves and our studying husbands a sweet treat!  We got back home around 8:00 and realized that we were hungry, again, but too tired to get back out. After calling five local Chinese restaurants and having the same conversation, "Do y'all deliver?  No, no, not to anyone!" We finally hit jack-pot with Wang's Mandarin House which I think is located across the river in Arkansas!  It was 9:15 before we had dinner and started watching, Twilight.  We didn't make it through half of the movie because we were all so tired.  All in all, we had a great day and purchased some really cute things!!

Yummm!!!

Seriously, if you live in Memphis, you MUST go to Muddy's!

My husband's sweet treat!!

Catching up with the in-laws!

This weekend, Travis' parents came into town.  They got here around 5 Friday and stayed until Sunday morning.  We took them out for BBQ at none other than the wonderful Central BBQ.  Later that night, we played Corn Hole.  It took Judy a little bit to get used to the game but Troy was/is a natural!  Saturday, was all business!  When we moved into our perfect little palace almost 3.5 months ago, the first thing on our "To Do List" was to fix the terrible landscaping.  There is this ugly bush in the backyard that Travis had been wrestling with for a while.  He asked his Dad to bring some of his handy tools with him.  Needless to say, it took them ALL day Saturday and two trips to Home Depot to finally get this bush outta here!!  While the boys were busy in the back, Judy and I had some quality girl time and did some shopping.  Later that night, we cooked out and watched the NASCAR Race.  For dessert, we celebrated Travis' birthday that is coming up in September.  I knew that he isn't going to be able to see his parents around his actually bday because of his school schedule so we decided to celebrate a little early.  He was very surprised!  It was a great weekend and we are so glad that they had the chance to come and see our new home.  We miss you guys!  Love you both.

6 a.m. Really???

The hubby and I decided to start running in the mornings before school.  Our plan is to get up tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. and get to running.  We both normally get up around 7:00.  I am posting about our plan in hopes that it will make us get our lazy booties up and OUT of the bed in the morning.  Wish us luck.

"I wanna be a hot wing eater..."

One week down, 35 more to go!  This week has been great, exciting, long, cheerful, exhausting, and so much more.  It's always fun meeting my new little ones and seeing my babies from last year all grown up.  For the first few weeks, we are learning rules, procedures, and reviewing kindergarten skills.  Their personalities come out early!  This week we've been working on an "All About Me"  booklet for our "Back to School" night next Thursday.  I love seeing what the children say when we talk about their favorite games, food, and what they want to be when they grow up.  We were going around the circle today and they were telling me what they want to be.  My favorite response (I think ever) was, "I wanna be a hot wing eater!"  One of the many reasons I LOVE my job and LOVE the first grade!!!!

I miss you!  Love, Josie".  Isn't she the sweetest?!!?!!  Thanks Josie.  You made my day and I love you so much.  See you soon.

Happy Birthday at Happy Mexican

Tomorrow is Charles' birthday but we celebrated it last night.  We normally go out to dinner the Monday's after their Par tests, so we did dinner and had a birthday celebration all together!  We went to Happy Mexican downtown, which was great!

Wives Club

Dental Dudes, seriously boys?

Aren't they cuties?

Cookies and Cream cake from Baskin Robbins=YUMMM!!

While the boys were out setting up Cornhole, the girls got the birthday cake ready.  We turned off the lights and were ready to sing.  I think Charles was surprised and excited about the singing and cake.  Julie had a delicious cake form BR.

"Happy birthday to Charles, Happy birthday to Charles, Happy birthday to Charles, Happy birthday to YOU!"

Make a wish.

The Puryears

If you haven't noticed, Cornhole has become on of our favorite games to play!  We've all gotten pretty good.  Last night, the boys played, then the girls, then the Siscos vs Puryears.

Cheering on our guys!  It was Houston's birthday, too.  He is sitting in Lauren's lap.  Happy Birthday Houston!

Can't Wait....

to finish the book and then see the movie!  I know you guys are going to think I am crazy posting about all of these books that I've thrown myself into.  I have read some really great books this summer.  I have been able to read them so quickly for many different reasons (1) they have all been amazing and I haven't wanted to put them down (2) I have had the entire summer off to do whatever I please (this has been my first summer in a very long time that I could totally devote it to whatever I want to do...no college courses, no wedding to plan, no master's classes to complete, no relocating) (3) my husband went back to school at the beginning of July and is studying all the time  (4) all of my girlfriends in Memphis...work during the day.  Now don't think with all of my reading I've been slacking only my wife duties!  I take breaks from reading to run to the store, take my husband out to lunch, wash the clothes/dishes, clean the house, cook, and for fun-meet the "Wives Club" for dinner and a movie.  Oops, I've lost track of what I was really meaning to post about.  So, I am almost half-way through with The Time Traveler's Wife and so far so good.  I go back to school TOMORROW!!!!  yuck, so I might not finish it as quickly as the others.  But my goal is to have to finished by August 14 which is when the movie comes out.  The "Wives Club" went to see The Ugly Truth, which is huh-larious and we can't wait to go see this in 2 short weeks!!  Click here for a sneak peak of the movie.
